New game to release alongside second movie in Star Trek reboot

One of the big game announcements of E3 was a brand new adventure based on Star Trek, specifically the acclaimed 2009 film by Lost creator, J.J. Abrams. Now, new details on the game have emerged.

Star Trek

It is set shortly after the end of the 2009 film and focuses on the relationship between Star Trek’s two main characters: Capt. James T. Kirk and Spock. You’ll get to play through the game in both of their shoes and experience it from their own unique perspectives. It also features a co-op mode, so you and a buddy can explore the final frontier together.

Both Kirk and Spock have their own unique abilities, which you must utilize together to most effectively help each other out -- essentially forming the ultimate tag team. Of course, you will have all of the top United Space Federation technology at your disposal as well, such as phasers and tricorders.

Kirk and Spock must work together

Star Trek is being published by Paramount Digital Entertainment and developed by Ontario-based Digital Extremes, which has worked on several acclaimed games, such as Bioshock 2, Unreal Tournament, and Dark Sector. The game’s original storyline is being written by Marianne Krawczyk, who is known in the gaming world as the writer for God of War. She’s writing the script in collaboration with the writers and producer of the 2009 film.

Star Trek is set for release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The PS3 version will have PlayStation Move support, as well as a special phaser move controller available. There’s still no word if the 360 version will support Kinect. The game is expected to hit store shelves sometime in 2012.
