Ubisoft franchises prepare for the big screen treatment

Known for famous franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon, Ubisoft is preparing to expand those properties to the big screen.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures is the newest studio to be introduced under Ubisoft Digital Arts. Combined with the 2008 purchase of Hybride Technologies, the studio behind the effects for 300, Ubisoft hopes to bring big screen versions of its most famous recent titles with the aim of not only entertaining but to remain faithful to their original properties as much as possible.

Our Strategy is not to diversify but to bolster the appeal of our franchises -- that's why we want to make sure our films will reflect the brands accurately and consolidate our fan base while expanding beyond the games' primary target audience,” says Ubisoft Motion Pictures' Senior VP of International Marketing and Distribution Jean de Rivieres.

Next month, Ubisoft plans to visit California to discuss its movie ideas with various studios and agents. Scripts are to be ready by the end of the year.
