Pre-Ordered Portal 2 via Steam for PC or Mac? Want it early? You need to do one more thing.

Valve is being cunning with its marketing strategy. Of course, it always has been and always will be. First, it leaked images that only the most savvy geek would be able to get. Recently, a lot of Steam games have received updates that added Portal 2-related content into them. Now? That content's become useful.

So, with Portal 2's release in around three days time, the thought of having the game just before everyone else looms in gamers' dreams. However, right at this very minute, they aren't dreams, and this is all about to become a reality. Valve has released today the "GlaDOS@Home Distribution" system. Basically, the more people playing the 13 games in the "Potato Sack" bundle on Steam, the quicker Portal 2 is to release. See, the GlaDOS@Home Distribution system powers the Launch systems. All a gimmick, we know, and it certainly will anger gamers who wanted the game to be released at 9 a.m. this morning, but Valve won't go down without a fight.

You can see more of the GlaDOS@Home Distribution system and current statistics at its homepage here. Without the launch systems active, Portal 2 is set for an April 18 release, but who knows when it really will be released should Valve get the response I'm hoping for.
