Cel-shaded mutation abounds
Los Angeles, CA, USA

Atari plans to bring the D&D Gamma World series to video game form. Gamma World takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, not unlike other games such as Borderlands or Fallout. The game is cel-shaded, is meant to have a off-humor tone, and doesn't take itself seriously.

Players can customize their character from a variety of different origins, such as "Radioactive Man" and "Yeti," which can alter the player's different properties (i.e., having a poison effect) and which can also change their appearance. You'll also be able to customize your player's skills via a skill tree. Players will be able to use a primary, secondary, and specialty weapons, one referred to as the "Mega-Tech." Melee weapons are also included; so far, those mentioned were a baseball bat and samurai swords. The player will also be able to craft weapons by salvaging junk.

As the player progresses, he can unlock new primary mutations as well as mutate secondary ones. The player can also go through random alpha-mutations, which are based on how you're attacked in the game as well as your radioactive level.

Throughout the presentation, new enemies were introduced by a flashy, filtered cutscene, followed by their name, a cinematic style used by some forms of media. The enemies shown during the demo were pigs named Porker and Hoop.

The game has a single-player campaign, and currently two player co-op is a definite. Whether it has online multiplayer is unknown at this point; however, Atari is going for anywhere between two to four players maximum. Gamma World is currently being developed for the Xbox 360; its release date is unknown.

Editor's note: The game was still in a very early phase, so photography was not allowed for this demonstration.
